Semperoper Dresden
Walk home after the performance
From Cottaer Straße it is 1.7 kilometres to Theaterplatz – a good twenty minutes along the Elbe, or a few minutes by tram.
The hard part of an opera evening is not the opera
It is getting back. And parking.
The car parks around Theaterplatz are full and expensive on performance nights, and hunting for a space an hour before curtain-up is no way to start the evening. Here a parking space belongs to the apartment – you park once and leave the car there.
Afterwards you either walk back – twenty minutes along the river, in summer the best part of the evening – or take the tram. Trams run until around 00:45 every half hour, then the night lines take over.
The useful part: at Postplatz, five minutes on foot from the Semperoper, all night lines meet at the same time. If one is late, the others wait. So you need not watch the clock while the applause is still going.
What else is within walking distance
People who come for the Semperoper rarely stay a single evening. In the same direction you will find:
- the Zwinger with the Old Masters gallery, right beside Theaterplatz
- the Royal Palace with the Green Vault, two minutes further
- the Kulturpalast, home of the Dresden Philharmonic
- the Kreuzkirche with its famous boys' choir
- the Frauenkirche and the Brühl Terrace
All within a kilometre of Theaterplatz. A weekend with opera on Saturday and the choir on Sunday can be done entirely on foot.
Practical notes for the evening
- Iron and ironing board are in the apartment. After a train journey a jacket usually needs one.
- Check-in around the clock. If your train gets in at nine in the evening, nobody is waiting up for you – the access code arrives beforehand.
- Dinner first: the old town charges theatre prices. Friedrichstadt and Löbtau have neighbourhood restaurants where you can sit in peace before the performance.
- Tickets: the Semperoper programme is published far in advance. Once you have the ticket, book the room as well – Dresden fills up for premieres and in Advent.
Planning for 2027?
2027 is open here – not yet on Booking or Airbnb
The platforms have not released 2027 yet. If you are already planning – for a trade fair, a longer assignment or next summer – you can still secure your dates with us. Send us the dates and we will confirm bindingly.
Both apartments sit west of the centre, close to the old town
Booking direct pays off
Why book here and not on a platform
On Booking.com and Airbnb you pay a service fee on top of the price. That money doesn't reach us – it stays with the platform. Book direct and we both skip the detour.
- No service fee – the price in the calendar is the price you pay
- Straight to the host – no messages relayed through a platform
- Flexible arrival – self check-in around the clock, late night included
- Better rates for longer stays – from one week onwards, just ask
- Proper invoice with the city tax shown separately – for your expense report
